Well, Party City is a pretty scary place when you're the only souls alive inside.
The three of them reach far, far into the racks, looking at the endless choices of knock off costumes such as Courageous Maria and A Genie In A Costume. At first, it feels like they're not really going to find anything at all, but then - November 11 touches a costume bag, and it's hot.
For whatever reason, it's melting? A soft swirl of purple comes off the Juice Demon costume bag, until the plastic has dissolved entirely.
Inside, there's a note. Maybe they should read it.
And then maybe leave Party City before they get arrested for arson crimes.
I think so. That's the only place where we're finding anything that matches up with the weird stuff here no one can explain. What I wanna know is what this "space between the fingers of its caged grasp" is. That's gotta be the key to everything, right?
It's possible it's linked, yes. Those animals are creations of the Prism, if their...colorful appearances is any indication. Perhaps it's trying to nudge us all somehow.
Using all colors evenly would require careful planning. It could be worth a try but given how unpredictable this place is, there would be inevitable deviations from any plan.
[Hmmmmm...]
All this talk about balance has me quite worried, too. Perhaps it's not only the colors what needs to be balanced. Perhaps our experiences here throw off the balance, too.
[November crosses his arms and begins talking:]
Isn't it curious that every time we all do something remarkably positive, something extremely negative happens shortly afterwards? We all clean up the place and Kumon and Atsushi try to do something fun for us all, things go wrong with authentic strife and danger. We all had fun with party games, the next day almost a dozen of us have serious injuries and two people die just a little later.
Even today -- there was some lighthearted fun with questions and showing off the things we know, and then Party City gets full of fog and our dislikes and fears come out to play.
I'm not looking forward to what tomorrow will bring, now that we enjoyed ourselves with a cheery capture the flag game.
[Alas, November is right only because this is a murdergame and things go according to a schedule. If it wasn't for that, it's very likely he'd be wrong, but still, the whole thing about balance made him think of that]
Me and Kazu checked out the stage. There wasn't anything from Dreamer there, but we found some stuff that was from our stage at home? A script about baseball and some dressing rooms inn the back.
When we tried switching it to the outdoor stage, it kinda glitched out the way a computer would, then there was static. Then we were just in a blank dark space with white, scarlet, and purple dust.
After a little while we started to glitch and sound like static.
Then we were sent out into the central node in weird oily black ooze.
It'd be really really weird if this was all some kind of VR simulation.
whoa at least if it IS some kinda simulation, maybe you just found the border of it! this might be a way out of the "caged fingers" that note last week mentioned
white, scarlet, and purple... none of the residents we know match those maybe white is dreamer? since white is a combination of all the other colors
A simulation would explain the oddities all over this place, as well as an explanation as to how the environment is supposed to work.
[Since, you know, AI learns and develops further according to the input it gets, and here are thirty-something people providing input. Seems plausible! Still...]
This being a simulation brings a question that's perhaps just as urgent as how to leave: where are our bodies right now?
[Trapped in pods? Lying around with cables in their heads? Back at home somehow but beaming their consciousness through time and space and into a computer? Who knows]
Too much or too little and balance. It's all really confusing to me.
Maybe it took us all in to try and feel balanced, but then there were too many people it took in and now it's unbalanced the other way? I don't know either.
Suddenly I really don't like the idea of a simulation... Where are we if we're stuck here? And is time really happening the way we think it's happening or is it like in those books where 1 minute is days...
I was thinking about our theater back home, and a theater appeared this week. So is it drawing from what we're thinking off cause it doesn't know what to make on its own?
Still... I don't know anybody who's thinking about an arena of demons that wants to watch people fight to the death.
[ danny once physically entered an MMO where you win by beating all the levels and getting the key that lets you access the entirety of the world wide web
bodily being in a simulation is like, the LEAST stupid part of that ]
Either that or someone controlling the simulation uses the input to create new locations, and adds their own spin on them. I too doubt anybody here would have come up with anything like that.
[Some controller outside the simulation coming up with that would explain it, really]
Of course this all may end being real instead of a simulation. It's too soon to get attached to a particular theory. Both of you keep your eyes open and watch out for anything else that could support it, though.
ugh i hate all the balance talk anyway it's like, there's no way to explain the balance stuff here in a way that makes sense it's never about "balance" in a way that we can actually SEE it just weird vague ideas about it
Asking as many people as possible to keep an eye out for any glitches is a good idea anyway. If this theory is true, sooner or later others will begin seeing errors like this one.
[...possibly! There's also always a chance the glitches are just a visual issue in the Prism and this is not a simulation. Better keep the mind open instead of getting too attached to this theory!]
Did you feel tired like usual even though nothing happened?
I think it's kind weird that we haven't gotten less tired using it after weeks off using it. Practice is usually supposed to help with that, when it comes to muscles and skills and stuff. But I don't know about magic.
That's what happened. Since it wasn't an urgent situation I decided it wasn't worth thinking too much about. It may be something happening this week, just as last week we all pursued physical contact all of a sudden.
If next week we all continue having trouble to use this magic, then it'll be a sign something may be deeply wrong.

But there was only four of them here before, right? And like, eight different colors. That couldn't have been balanced to start with.

You think it's equal? Like, something just a little good will result in something a little bad? And really good will make for really bad?

Didn't they say something about balance? Maybe they were so balanced the Prism spat them out?

maybe...
but i don't know, spitting out half the colors doesn't sound very balanced to me
