[ he taps his hand against the gravestone. ] Doesn't really matter how old it is, someone died, and someone else wanted them to be remembered. Least we can do is try and upkeep it a bit, yeah?
[ he'll gesture to his side! there's a little bucket and some cleaning supplies. come join him.
but, to the question, as he returns to his work: ] I ... [ how do you phrase this. ] ... Work for the Matron of Death, sort of. Do a lot of things dealing with the dead. Spaces like this are pretty familiar to me.
[ Danny grabs a sponge or a rag or whatever, dips it in the bucket, and gets to work! He pauses a little at Vax's words though and perks up in interest. ]
Huh. There's a Matron of the Dead? What's she like? What sort of stuff do you even do for that? Other than cleaning graves, I mean.
[ this is very amused, though - vax clearly doesn't mind. ]
All sorts of things. 's just one of her names - I know her as the Raven Queen, but she's the goddess of death. She's...
[ how does one describe the raven queen, actually. ] ...tall as a building when she wants to be. Wears a white mask. So ancient no one really knows her name, anymore, and fuckall powerful, but she's been kind to me in ways I wasn't expecting.
[ the name raven queen makes an obvious connection, too - vax's black raven feather armor has been on him pretty much daily, and even now rustles gently in the wind as he's talking. despite the teasing at the beginning, he is taking the time to answer each of danny's questions. ] I'm her Champion. Chase down the undead and guide them safely to their final destination, whatever that might be.
Plus, maintaining temples, keeping up shrines. Things like that.
[ a very, very long story. a 115 4 hour episodes long story,
the second part's a little easier, though. vax cocks his head. ] Dimension? Maybe. More like the afterlife. The Raven Queen's domain is death, but it's the place between. Sort of the last stop before your soul moves on to wherever it goes.
[ Danny chews on that for a moment as he scrubs away at the grave. ]
...I guess that's kinda like what we have in my world. But there isn't a goddess of death--just a Ghost King, and uh. He's kind of a tyrant that everyone tries to keep sealed away. And I know ghosts can be...destroyed...but I don't know if anyone knows what comes after that--if anything.
Huh? Why would they be on our world? There's like, a whole separate dimensions for them. That's where most of them are--sometimes they manage to get through to the regular human world, but for the most part they're all in the Ghost Zone. And...I think that place might be infinite? So I don't think it can get crowded.
